wannabeMogul started as a blog all about seeking out dare-to-be-great situations…a think tank on building and driving business…and a collection of my theories on how to innovate and evolve strategic communications, public relations, social media and the Web. It’s still that, but it has also evolved as I’ve found opportunities to “dare to be great” and experienced more and more in the world of social media. Now, most of all, it’s my thoughts and perspective as a millennial in today’s business and communications world. You can catch only my blog posts by following @wannabeMogul on Twitter or subscribing by RSS or email. For more personal updates, follow me on Twitter @jacobsloan.
Updates here on wannabeMogul may be infrequent, but when I’m not blogging here, you can certainly find me elsewhere on the Web.
And who, you might ask, is Jacob? (Here’s that ever exciting third-person bio I completely didn’t write myself)
Jacob Sloan is a twentysomething millennial and a wannabe mogul with a passion for social media. You can connect with him on LinkedIn, Twitter or tumblr.
During the fall of his freshman year at The University of Texas at Austin, Jacob and six other men took on the task of refounding a fraternity. In the process of recruiting and “building a brand” for the organization, he discovered social media, community management and online marketing. And in the process of promoting that organization, he learned the hardships and excitement of running a small business.
After graduating with a background in journalism, public relations, new media and computer science, Jacob worked in the marketing department of a videogame publisher and as an assistant editor in the newspaper industry. But he currently earns his keep as the Lead Social Media Strategist at Wieck Media.
Through Wieck, Jacob counsels clients to use social media with purpose and strategy. Especially strategy. And while he continues to strive to be “kind of a big deal” someday (that whole “wannabe mogul” thing), for now, he spends his time seeking out every dare-to-be-great situation he can get his hands on.
The snarkier side of Jacob also runs a blog on fantasy football and the fantasy sports culture called Fantasy Football Fools.
